so thats a claw?sounds like they were too afraid to touch it even thats why end up using cable ties.from looks it seems they could have fixed it without turning power off even!!!!!!!????cab;e ties are bad choice as its electrical areas and would be very warm.

i suppose the insulator broke off and claw is unable tosecure itself to anything.think do a few welds should do.

if insulator is not broken then remove the bolts if nthey are totaaly damaged .is not a big deal unless they have never worked at all and just clean train tracks only.if the entire claw and attachment points was damgaed severely and they have a new claw from stores but cant find a way to screw it in............i suggest u rebuild the entire screw hole isnide the insulator.its not a big job and they have better components availiable in hardware stores too!

but cable ties attach claw to what??it will still slidfe off and u even need to add in chewing gum to stop it from sliding even!!!maybe they did put chewing gum but too embarrased to say they used it too.:)

since its a support system..it should be welded or tightened by real nuts and bolts.u cant use a paper clip or cable ties to secure a buildimng structure or even the chair u sit on.

i suggest all thise who made the cable tie on rail to be fired immediately and sent to prison asap.

from the drawin . wen they said dislodged ,most probably is the spring clip tat holds the claw had came off

the claw is supporting the entire metal rail.that claw by right should be attached to a strong point thats very rigid....all i can seee is claw secured to insulator .so i suppose insulator is fixed to stationary strong point.without a strong claw to fixed areas..the railings might get shifted....damaging rails and undergarrage and some cases eventually misalignement and derailment at other points of rail lines.

what would happen if support is mislagned..the railings will misalign too,,,all the train roller wheels might get damaged..worn out.then when it goes to a track which is normal sized width,,,it might even get derailed.

securing points,cable tie is not exactly used to correctly fix nuts n bolts things.

Maybe the collector shoe made too much friction to the third rail, the third rail gain too much heat and expanded, causing it to bend downward? Since the third rail doesn't have expansion gaps? Then the downward force of the expanding third rail overcomed the cable ties, causing it to break AGAIN.

Glue would be useless in this case since heat is generated by the friction between the collector shoe and the third rail. The heat would melt the glue, rendering it useless.

i dont speculate.after looking at simple thing...im beginning to think train will derail.not on that line but perhaps pther lines thru out spore.there are ceratinly more of these problems.

u never ever use strong cable ties to fix this problem.that would be like securing a broken aircraft wing structure using cable ties too.

its poor maintenance and troubleshooting method unless u have no choice.in which case u might as well use clamps.

perhaps they can try using Rubber Band or Duct Tape instead of cable tie till they come out with a perm. solution

If the thickest, strongest cable ties cannot even keep 2nos of 1/2" SS tubes holding 3000psi of hydraulic pressure on a 750 ton AHC drawworks brake lines together.

I don't expect them to last on rail claws that need to take that kind of pounding 18 hours a a day.
