Is it a terminal station in the first link? Thanks!
Yes.
Using 17 inch monitor very "kua zhang".
Not cheap and use more power too.
Some information the LCD/LED monitor display can
provide:
- Advertisments
- Real-Time Train information (Passengers will be notified almost
immediately when there's a delay, accident and incident, even if it
took place at a rival company's line)
- *Emergency brake display notification accompanied with
automatic annonuncement system the moment EB is
engaged
- Time taken from current station to the
respective station the train is going to stop at
- Detailed station layout information, showing passengers where the
exits, transfer and location are in the current/next station and
which carriage the passenger is in.
- Current Time
- What lines is available for transfer at the current/next
station
- The side which the doors opens at the current/next station
- And more.....
*Note: We have this system in place on NSEWL, just that
the annoucement is only
made after the train has come to a complete stop. Also, the
reason for engaging the emergency brake as mentioned in the
annoucenement is that there is a train/system fault, which is
usually not the case. Most of the time it is engaged due
to changing of operation mode or engagement of
ATP.
In contrast, currently our STARIS provides:
- The location of the train and stops it's going to make.
(Occasionally buggy)
- The side which the doors opens at the current/next station.
(Occasionally buggy)
- LED displaying written format of the announcement made.
Not to mention, STARIS cost
around S$12,000,000 in total provided Wikipedia is
correct. Assuming a 17 inch LCD/LED monitor cost
S$300 each:
(Cost of monitor) * (2 monitors on each door) * (8 doors per
carriage) * (6 car per trainset) * (106 active trainset) =
Cost of LCD/LED monitor only
300 * 2 * 8 * 6 * 106 = S$3,052,800
If you include manpower, R&D, programming and
miscellaneous cost, how much do you think it will cost in
total?
Lastly, with an LCD/LED monitor display, route is scalable and
changes usually don't cost as much as it
is just "software changes". In contrast for STARIS,
depending on changes are made on the existing network, it may
not only require a change of "software" but may also requires a
change of every information/LED boards on the trains.
