Oasis station on
Punggol LRT Loop opens on Friday
SINGAPORE: The Oasis station on the Punggol East LRT Loop will open
on Friday.
This brings the total number of stations in service to seven.
SBS Transit said the station will provide residents with a seamless
connection to the MRT North East Line or the bus interchange at
Punggol.
Its opening, which comes two-and-a-half years after the official
commencement of the Punggol East LRT Loop, was delayed because of
the lack of housing developments in the vicinity.
The MP for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC, Penny Low, said she had received
requests from residents earlier this year to open the Oasis station
so they could have better access to the LRT.
So together with her grassroots leaders, she began talking to
various agencies like the Land Transport Authority, the Housing and
Development Board and SBS Transit, to see how they could improve
the access to public transport in that area.
SBS Transit's Chief Operating Officer, Gan Juay Kiat, said the
transport operator had been closely monitoring developments
surrounding the station and had noticed more residents moving into
the area.
