Incidentally, after reading and browsing some websites regarding
the proposed JB Monorail, I discovered that...
- Penang, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu will also have their own
Monorail systems soon
- the Monorail systems planned for the abovementioned places will
be developed under the Rancangan Malaysia ke-9 (9th Malaysian
Plan/RMK-9)
- the JB Monorail system will cost an estimated RM 1 billion, with
2 local firms with foreign partnerships, including South Korea,
reportedly have submitted proposals to the Johor Government
- the JB Monorail is just one of a few rail networks to be
developed under the Johor Bahru Masterplan 2020, which will include
a Transport Hub similar to KL Sentral (JB's side will be called JB
Sentral)
- the JB local rail network will be complemented by a Bullet Train
system linking JB and KL, part of the 9MP Southern Corridor
Development
- JB Sentral Transport Hub will be operational by year's end and
will be Johor Bahru's main transit terminal
- Johor Bahru KTM Station will be turned into a Railway Museum once
KTM operations have shifted to JB Sentral
- as recent as last week, 2 companies have submitted their bids,
costing around RM 1.6 billion to construct Penang monorail network,
known as LMT (Light Monorail Transit); one of the companies also
announced that it is ready to invest RM 150 million to construct a
hi-speed monorail system across the Penang Straits linking Penang
and Seberang Prai
- Penang rail network will come under the 9MP Northern Corridor
Development
