Aston Villa captain Gareth Barry is suspended having been shown a straight red card for bringing down Dennis Rommedahl at Charlton.

Stiliyan Petrov was replaced by Isaiah Osbourne in the second half at The Valley and could miss out following his problems with a hamstring injury.

Chelsea have defender Khalid Boulahrouz back after he missed Saturday's 2-2 draw with Fulham through suspension.

Michael Ballack is banned and Arjen Robben still has a hamstring problem.

O'Neill: Chelsea can win the lot!
tribalfooball.com - January 01, 2007

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill insists Chelsea can still win the title this season.

Ahead of tonight's match, O'Neill said: "Are Chelsea capable of doing it? Absolutely. The day we played them in the League Cup, you knew they were going to go at us as strongly as possible. Even some of their supposedly lesser players were not played. You knew then that they were serious.

"They are competing for everything. That's what I like about them. They are going for everything. You would need a bit of luck, though.

"Are they capable of winning the title? Yes. Are they capable of winning the European Cup? Yes.

"Where I do think that Chelsea have been lucky is that their major players have stayed fit.

"Frank Lampard had played 150-odd games consecutively for them and John Terry is very rarely injured, which is why they are missing him now."

Villa boss O'Neill jumps to Mourinho defence
tribalfooball.com - January 01, 2007

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has hit out at the critics of Chelsea's Jose Mourinho.
The defending champions are struggling without injured central defender John Terry.

They also have key figures like Petr Cech and Joe Cole sidelined.

But O'Neill, whose Villa side entertain the Blues tonight, insisted: "To turn around and say this is his first test, I totally and utterly disagree with that.

"He had his first test the moment he stepped into a new environment in England. Of course, it's great to know you have the best at your disposal - but you still have to manage them.

"He has gone there and Chelsea have taken the league by storm.

"Just because Manchester United are in front of them, doesn't mean to say that he is under any more pressure.

"If you are good enough to race clear and you can coast for a month in February and March, when pressure is mounting, good luck to you.

"But that is just as much an achievement as winning it on goal difference. I have a great regard for him, especially when you consider that, as a footballer, he did not achieve much.

"We all aspire to be the best player in the world but he didn't get that far. It's all the more praiseworthy that he has been able to get top, top players to play for him."
