Cold Storage – More imported food types and
specialty items from Australia, USA, Europe etc . Will also
bring in seasonal items like Egg Nog, Mince pies, Brandy Fruit Cake
etc. Overall better quality even for the fresh items. Vegetables
are much fresher compared to the other supermarkets (I’m using
lettuce as a yardstick here). I also think that Cold Storage have a
much better fruit selection compared to the other supermarkets.
Overall, prices are similar to others or higher priced depending on
the item.
NTUC Fairprice – Average quality for fresh fruits and vegetables
and the selection of fruits are really pathetic. Main grip is how
they package their Chilled Pork. It’s usually a little bit of meat
in a packet. Would rather they increase the amount by another 1-3
pces instead of paying more for the foam tray. Selection of brands
are limited to their Housebrand and popular brands. To be honest if
it’s not coz there is only NTUC nearest to my place, I would rather
shop at Giant for fruits and vegetables
Sheng Siong – More of air-conditioned wet market
concept to me with supermarket attachment. The fresh section is
large especially for seafood and live seafood. My perception is
that the things are cheaper but as I don’t shop there often I can’t
comment. The quality looks ok to me.
