hey man,

if you are talking about "die die must pump" premium petrol, than i think caltex platinum would more than suffice. The difference between them is so minute that i dont think you would really notice the difference, plus savings of 7 cents per litre, wow you really save. Very Happy

Shell gives me noticeable more torque (I think this is supported by the findings of asia motoring)... although Caltex does give me ~5% better mileage

please be careful, mixing the gasoline will result in engine knocking, not advisable

If u use the same octane den I think its ok, mixing different octane will result in the ECU adjusting to compensate the spark timing, so imagine if u mix the octane, the ECU will be confuse lor hence the timing could go hay wire, just imo. For the real reason maybe u can find the answer in car bible.

the ecu will not be confused.

if u mix fuels with diff octane ratings, the net resultant octane will be the average of the 2 different fuels by percentage of mix. this means that if u mix 50 liters of 95 and 50 litres of 98, the net octane rating will be 96.5 for a 100 litre fuel tank. this will produce consistent combustion results which the ecu will compensate accordingly.

stock ecu's have built in knock sensors which automatically retard timing once knock is detected. it is highly unlikely that a vehicle in sg using fuels with an octane rating of 95 and above would experience any knocking unless the timing is seriously off or unless the car has been specifically tuned for high octane fuels.

that said, i say v-power sucks. tried one full tank on my previous car and that was the last time i used it. no doubt that it contains enough detergents to keep ur fuel system clean, but i take platinum anytime. better power, better mileage.

I read from a recent article that most mass market car engines that we have on the roads nowadays go by just fine with Octane-95 gasoline. I wonder whats the hype in the Octane-98 as your cars probably won't be able to capitalize on the superior fuel mixture anyway. Probably the only difference is psychological and in the minds of the driver? Wink

It does matter in terms of how effecient the engine runs. Like power to weight ratio , then comes the additive. All cars actually have a world standard in their engine design , and all petroleum companies should have a standard in the additive of their petrol as to not harm the engine to perform at its optimum.

I am sure it does indeed have a difference, but surely the difference is only marginal as most mass market car engines found on the road today probably won't be able to capitalize on the superior fuel mixture anyway. I am referring to the cost of paying more for something whose effects are only marginal at best compared to paying for something less which works equally fine and not doubting the capability of high octane gasoline.

If you wanna save money.. y look at these 'high end' fuel?? juz pump 95 or 98 lo.. i'm curently usin v power.. the milege and power you get.. veri good.. juz to let you know.. i can clock 180 easily on 9 years old 1.3 litres manual car.. (didn't dare to go any faster).. on 98.. i can onli crawl to tt speed.. veri obvious..
