I'm disappointed with the backlash targetted at Ms World
Singapore, who, according to the media reports, letters, forums,
etc, did not have good English.
I think the attacks are too excessive.
In the first place, just try this experiment, do this
one.......go to YouTube and click open a Miss Universe channel (not
neccessarily an official one, a fan one also will do) and watch
their interviews.
Do they have perfect English?
Lots of them have thick accent too, whats the problem?
And they are Miss Universe contestants, one up than Miss World
contestants.
Also, do you notice this one.
In some final interviews, on the stage, sometimes there is an
interpreter on stage, and interpret English into the girl's native
language.
So, you see, why are all those countries can have pride with
their women ambassadors, but not Singapore?
Why..?????
There is nothing wrong with speaking broken English, thick
accent, etc, nothing wrong at all, because Singapore is a
MULTI-RACIAL and MULTI-LINGUIST nation, and please acknowledge that
English language mastery is not neccessarily can be up to the level
of native-English-speaking AngloSaxon countries like contestants
from Australia, Canada, USA, and so on.
Miss Singapore World with her brokern English REPRESENTS
Singapore and thusly those who attacked her are merely attacking
themselves and their own imperfect English.
