I recently did a deed poll to change my nric name. Man
i tell ya, the hassles that come along with a new nric name is
HORRENDOUS.
Well, 1st, you gotta do a deed poll at a law firm. That takes
time and costs money. And then, you gotta bring you old nric and
the deed poll to ICA to do a NEW nric with your new name. Again it
takes more time & costs more money. Not to forget you got to
spend $ to get a new picture for your new nric too. The good thing
is very likely you can get your new ic on the same day.
But now comes the real troublesome part. Your new nric renders
all your passports invalid. For whatever passports you have, you
got to get them all replaced with new ones. Nope, ICA does not
have a policy to replace your new passport And yes,
that costs MUCH more time (A week's waiting time and hours of queue
to get your turn) and even costs EXTRA money ~~~ 70 bucks for EACH
passport.
Now i've spent like 2 weeks and about 300 bucks to get all these
crap done, which was already a TERRIFYING ORDEAL to behold, who
knows one week later I got a call out of nowhere from some junior
ICA officer for me to bring back my passport to ICA cos of a
technical glitch.
i went there and there were a lot of other pple who got
called over. They took my passport made me wait a good 30 mins.
Then later told me they checked my passport thoroughly and found NO
PROBLEM.
I asked them what was the issue that made it
necessary to come down, but they refused to give me any reason.
What The Hell ? You asked me to come over to burn my lunch hour
away just for NO REASON?
They gave me a pathetic keychain for my effort. Hey please, that
cheapo keychain of yours I can get it anywhere ok?
Only later after reading online did I discover all this was due
to a printing glitch.
This is UNFORGIVABLE !! Dont you do enough checks &
screenings before issuing a passport which by all means
is the MOST IMPORTANT document a person carries?
( I consider passport more important than the IC )
If a passport is not deemed *security-check* free, what dah hell
do you even issue it in the first place?
This is really incompetence and a big SCREW Up on ICA's part
!!
And not a thousand sorries or a miserable tinnie-winnie
keychain's gonna make up for the time and effort by the people
!!
I am sooooo gonna write a strong WORDED letter to express my
utter disatisfaction with their botched up administraton and
processes.
