Cannot pump bike tyres

I wanted to go cycling just now at ECP... but the tyres were deflated and needed to be pumped up first.

I went to a bicycle shop at ECP. No air pump, they said.

I waited half an hour for another nearby bike shop to open. And when I asked, them, they didn't have the hose attachment needed for my tyres.

So I was left with a bike with a pair of quite-badly deflated tyres.... I just pushed my bike home without going cycling by the beach.

Couldn’t you have gone to a petrol station and used the air pump there?

Nacht.... the nearest petrol station was too far away. I would have to push my bike a pretty long distance.

Oh well... I guess maybe I'll go jogging later in the afternoon. Razz

Hmmm... if you had to push your bike home from the ECP, how did you make it to the ECP in the first place without noticing your tires were flat?

Or were the tires sufficiently inflated when you left the house, but lost air on the way to the ECP? Very Happy

I noticed that they were already deflated when I was about to take my bike out of the door.

So I pushed my bike to East Coast Park, fully expecting the bike shops to have air pump facilities there. After all, I've pumped up my tyres there several times before.

I didn't expect one shop to have no pump at all and another shop to have a pump but with no proper attachment mechanism for my tyres.

Ah, I see. It might be worth investing in one of those portable hand-operated tube-style tire pumps that you can keep at home or mount somewhere on the bike frame.

Do you have special valves on your stems? The ones on my bike are compatible with generic gas station tire pumps.

get a straw from 7-11 n manually blow to inflate ur tyres. Laughing

I think you must have Presta valves on your bike.

And the bike shops in ECP most probably have Schraeder valve attachment only since rental bikes usually come with schraeder valves...

But then again.. for them to say "no air pump"...

i got a footpump from Giant.. if i remember, it’s about $12…

I dunno.... cos it was actually my brother's bike that I was borrowing earlier today. I know nuts about Presta or Schraeder valves or whatever... but I do remember pumping up the tyres at the shops there.

As for the 'no air pump'... yeah, it sounds dumb to me too, but that's what they said. I guess they just don't like the idea of letting outsiders use their air pump.
