for those of you who knows how the US voting system works, why is it that the candidates seem to contest only in a few states?

from what i read in the news, several states are considered "hot states", like Iowa and New Hampshire etc....but USA has 50 states right????!!!

50 states and only a few states is involved in this nation-wide election???!!

can someone explain?
i thought most election system is to get the total number of votes in the country and then compare, not only a section of a country.

I think obama will continue to win New hampshire and south carolina there after is another level.

Did you watch Huckabee speech, that was powerful speech that demonstrate the abilities to use it as a momentum to push for the next state against John Mcain.
