Advice needed for travelling between Tokyo & Yokohama

u staying in tokyo now... pro sia...... u go report to Singaporean overseas forum already? no i don't live in tokyo...but i'm reasonably familiar with tokyo...

so must ID the best possible place to c c look look at nite....

since u in yokohama area.. then just relax there lor.. got the china town there... then the long long bridge.... i think got some ferry for tourist too.... then... the romantic red bricks shop area lor... a few row of shops.. mostly resturant i think..... got a game park there too...and some shopping mall lor..... then if u die die wan to go tokyo.. then shibuya can already lor..

if you want to get away from touristy attractions, you can catch a train from yokohama to kanazawa, about 15min if you take the express line. there, you can mingle and do what the local does. there is a beach there as well as local themepark, with roller coaster rides and all. you can pass your day easily there.

i like to go-the-road-less travelled itinerary. when i was last there on vacation with my family, we visited a bosaikan at yokokawo, tokyo. bosaikan is a life safety learning centre. there, we took part and learnt what to do in an earthquake. we participated in a earthquake drill and was in an earthquake simulation room to feel what is it like to be in a room when a earthquake is happening and have things fall over your head. pretty cool. i am sure you can find a bosaikan in yokohama too if this appeals to you. i think you need to make reservation.

smallish place, i cannot recall the place well since it was a day trip for me to visit my aunt when i was there for work; but the food there is quite extraordinary. i remembered most the fried meat ball rice....and another eatery where they actually make the noodle from stratch in open view before they boil it to cook.

japan is fascinating to say the least.

I will be working near hiyoshi for about 4 days... thinking of a good place to stay where I can walk around at night - found a good n cheap (US$50) place to stay at Tawaramachi.... if there is any equivalent place... pls let me know....

So in short, its like...

Narita - (place to stay - hiyoshi - place to stay) x4 - Narita...... place to stay is still open.....

considerations are easier for transportation n affordable to stay :)

ohhh...if you are working near hiyoshi...you should stay nearer to hiyoshi. really no point travelling from tawaramachi to hiyoshi everyday! staying nearer to hiyoshi will save you more time/money.

there should be quite some budget accommodations/business hotels in yokohama. can check out the toyoko chain of hotels?

since you are working...i doubt you've much time to jalan-jalan except at night...so perhaps you might want to stick to exploring yokohama - i.e. yamashita park, chinatown, motomachi, minato mirai etc. it's actually quite a nice place to walk around. landmark tower offers a fantastic view of yokohama...a tad costly but worth a look.

and when you've got some free time, then you can consider popping over to shibuya/meguro for some shopping/food/jalan since it's pretty convenient with direct trains going to shibuya/meguro and back.

are you planning to extend your stay after your work is done? if yes, then you can consider moving away from hiyoshi to tokyo central or some other places?

last time i went there... i just see this wheel far far away from the chinatown... then just follow in that direction...... walk along yokohama bay........till i reach it.......alone and cold... knn...... what about that red brick house area?? i think quite famous too right.... miss it.. i think it's quite lomatic there... too bad i went alone last time...

Based on all your comments, I will probably stay near hiyoshi... will probably extend 1 more day to walk around shibuya....

for japan accommodations...you can try http://travel.rakuten.co.jp/en/ they do have quite good deals at times. i've used them quite often to book my accommodations in tokyo and other parts of japan. there are also some good business hotels/accommodations that are not listed on hotel booking portals...so you might have to contact the hotels directly...go google for japan travel tips/advices and see what others have written or recommend for hotel accommodations. you can try hardwarezone.

1. of cos, visit the a-bomb site and the museum. slabs of walls with the `black rain' are still on displayed. i went away understanding that in a war, there is no winner, regardless of who is the bad guy.

2. eat ekonomiyaki. i understand hiroshima is the origin of ekonomiyaki, though some of my jap frens dispute that. most heavenly, quite unlike the same you try elsewhere....

3. eat whale meat if you dare....

the 3 things i did when there quite a while back.....there are the usual shopping street, etc. perhaps others here can give you better guidance.

you should do #2 & #3 when there. seriously.

errhhh...tawaramachi is very far from hiyoshi & yokohama. you should stay nearer to yokohama and explore that area & vicinity.
