SpeedStar SG Hi guys, Just knock off my passenger side mirror yesterday when i was doing reversing and my whole side mirror assembly was damaged and detached from the car only leaving cable attached. I wanted to removed the side mirror assembly but it looks like it involves in getting the door panel out before i can remove the cable. The problem is I cant remove the panel altot I can see there is a clip on it. I also afriad i might damaged the clip as its make of plastic might incured other serious problem....Now the side mirror assembly is hanging outside the car, v troublesome when i have to drive. I need ur guys advice whether its better to find out ways and do it myself and risk damaged the door panel or get it done by the mechanics. I heard the mechanics repair is v expensive here in states.....
skid SG I nvr had to replace a remotely operated side mirror before so I don’t know how involved it is. My advice would be have a mechanic do it.
SpeedStar SG From ur exp how much will it cost for the workmanship? I check from the internet the side mirror assembly cost ard 38 ~49 depend with heater or not. If add workmanship, do u think it will cost 100 USD??
Meia Gisborn SG Hi, SS! I think we need more information before we can offer any assistance. Specifically, what is the make and model of your vehicle? However, I can bet you dollars to donuts that you do not have to remove the door panel to unplug the cable going the motors in the wing mirror assembly--it wouldn't make sense from an assembly-line workflow perspective to not have the wing mirror installable as a completely separate unit. There's probably a detachable electrical connector right at the motor unit inside the mirror housing, or an in-line cable connector that can be accessed by pulling the entire wiring harness a little ways out of the door. A few years back I had to remove the passenger-side wing mirror on my (then) new Nissan Sentra SE-R to have it repainted as I had stupidly entered the garage a little too far to the right and caused the mirror to nick the side of a workbench. The entire mirror assembly came off with just a screwdriver and a little prying, and the wiring harness was easily unplugged from the motors in the unit.
SpeedStar SG Hi MG, Thanks for the advice. Have ask one of the colleague there to help me remove the side door panel and remove the damaged assembly. Yes u are right, there is one detachable connector that connects the mirror to the car. Reason I remove the door panel is because I cant access to the connector and the connector was attached to the side door....Could be fact that its an american car that y I have to make this hassle. Is not easy to remove for the first time but once remove, its very easy. Have to becareful not to damaged the clips cos its make of plastics. Maybe it will be better if I remove and take a picture so story telling will be much more easier...hehe Btw I have already ordered the mirror assembly and it cost me 60 bucks with the heater option......Learnt my lesson now...have to drive with my eyes open next time...haha Finally thks skid, MG, and fatum for the help, first time accident, thats y I so kan cheong. Acting like a spider....
