What do you want to know about ASCP accreditation? The ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) does run accreditation programmes for laboratory technicians. I had some dealings with them way back when I considered sending my technicians for some sort of professional qualifications.

There are two major issues. First, you must have a recognized University degree in a relevant discipline. Second, you need to work and train in a CAP (College of American Pathologists)-accreditated laboratory, unless you intend to go over to the US for your training. Then you need to sit the various examinations...the syllabus and past years papers are available for purchase.

i read the requirements... i assume that a diploma is not equals to an associate degree?

there's a testing center here in singapore too right?

No, particularly if you are referring to a polytechnic diploma here as they are not familiar with our institutions. You can write to them to see if they will accept it...it's a case-by-case basis for overseas qualifications.

Which field are you interested in? ASCP offers accreditation exams in varous disciplines...so you can be certified in cytology, histology, haematology etc...

CAP accredited labs in Singapore: Dept of Pathology, SGH; Department of Pathology, NUH; Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, TTSH.

my interest is microbiology...

haiz, see if i can get into uni or not. my results not very good, and i have only one semester left.

Hmm...microbiology and biochemistry are the only sub-disciplines of Pathology that will allow you to be a consultant pathologist without being a medical doctor. If you do well enough to get into Uni, go all the way to get a PhD. You might even be able to get a consultant's position.

No...Mt Elizabeth was trying to get CAP accreditation when I was back home...not sure if they have got it yet.

hmm... Department of Hematology at SGH is ASCP accredited...
