Round worms (Ascaris) is less common now that we have no pig
farms but used to be quite common 30-50 years ago. I remember
seeing a patient with elephantiasis, which is due to lymphatic
obstruction by this parasite. We no longer see it. Pin worms
(Enterobius) still pops up now and then among children...parents
complain that their kids keep scratching their backsides...the
parasites hatch in the anus and crawl back into the gut. We see
alot more of unicellular parasites like amoebiasis in homosexual
man and in general more parasitic infestations are seen in HIV
positive patients.
However, in general we do not see many parasitic infections in
Singapore nowadays....you are better off going to Australia if you
want to see parasitic pathology.
