The workers are not necessarily hardworking, but the students
are very hardworking for a very good reason.
The students, especially those in JC/Poly/Uni, are often here on
scholarships or bursaries. Their families are mostly not rich, and
the parents of some of these students are farmers or construction
workers, thus they cannot afford to provide for education for their
children.
If these students do badly and lose their scholarships, they
will be forced to go back to China and will be unable to change
their lives for the better ( Back to farm work, or doing a small
family business). Thus, they will "fight" to prove every single
ounce that they are worth.
