rainee SG no no, of cos not put back the diseases b reast...yucks... I am just wondering, cos what if a young lady went for total mastectomy then she recovered...then like half or maybe both of her b reasts are gone...so just wondering if there is a mean to reconstruct it so that she will look normal la... Does this apply to patients who are disfigured thru other means too? Like those involved in accidents, those who are partially burned in a fire...

Does this apply to patients who are disfigured thru other means too? Like those involved in accidents, those who are partially burned in a fire...Yes it does, but it is called Skin Grafting. For example a person were to lose out a huge chunk of meat due to accident, they will remove some flesh from the back of the shin or the buttocks to replace the missing piece. This can be done by any General Surgeons or Orthopedists... Don't worry about the shin or the buttocks, they will take time to heal after stitching the gap together... Disfigurement like losing of teeth, dislocated temporomandibular joint (TMJ) broken nose or other facial problems can be put under the care of a Plastic Surgeon...
rainee SG But what if the skin grafting leaves scar and the b reast was no longer proportionate after the accident? Can a surgery be used to make it look "normal" again?
renorenal SG No no... Breast Reconstruction Surgery (BRS) is different from Split Skin Grafting (SSG). BRS replaces the b.reast with synthetic material while the SSG replaces the gap with skin from another site of the body. Hence BRS will not leave a scar, it is the scar from the mastectomy that is the problem, but with BRS and careful manipulation and final touch-ups, the shape and its contour can be made to look almost like the other side. It is purely for cosmetic reason. With our current technology in reconstructive surgery, anything is possible. Just that it is quite costly.
rainee SG ic...yea I know it is expensive...I wonder how much that Dawn girl spent on all her surgery series... You know how much does a plastic surgery cost roughly?
renorenal SG Can cost up to 5 figures depending on the skills of the surgeon, the facilities used, the management and post-op care provided and the number of follow-ups and touch-ups made...
rainee SG woo...expensive indeed... btw, is dat in Malaysian currency or in Spore currency? And do you know of any reliable hospital that provides this kinda service?
BadzMaro SG lol.. dang man.. SGForums also got this kind of thing.. when i got symptoms i will let u know

renorenal SG In Malaysian currency... but it may differ in other countries. Almost all state hospitals and private hospitals would have these services. It really depends, but it is yet to be that established or that popular amongst the people yet in South East Asia, hence the demand is low and most of the specialists work out of their countries.
renorenal SG Sure do, if you have any questions to ask, do post them here... medically related of course...
