The Starlight CLub is a volunteer organisation with a focus on providing social support with youths with special needs and youths at risk.

For our current project, we are looking for 22 volunteers for the Spastic Children's Association School (SCAS) School Camp.

Date: 8 August 2009 (Saturday)
Time: 8.30 am - 6 pm
Venue: Meet at SCAS. Bus will bring everyone to East Coast park.Volunteers to leave from East Coast Park.

The children who will be attending this camp are between the ages 7 to 11 with different types of special needs. Some of them will be using the wheelchairs and/or walking aids. There are also some who may be non~ verbal and communicate using gestures.

Activities include playing games, building big sandcastle together, bowling (wet weather program).

There will be a volunteer briefing prior to the camp. Please let me know if you prefer the briefing to be: (Weekday Evening or Weekend Morning)

Volunteers would be assigned as buddies to the children to help them to whenever it is required:
1) Assist child in packing belongings/tent
2) Play games
3) help to carry child/ help in walking when necessary
4) help to accompany child to toilet when necessary
5) help in feeding when necessary

That is nice of you, but most of the forummers here are really not up for looking after children, much less to say those with special needs.

By the way, the outing IS in August.

:) I think most people often have the thought to wish to volunteer to do something meaningful

But the fear of not knowing what to expect and worry that they are not able to handle often gets in the way and stops them from taking a first step.

Hopefully I can reassure anyone interested that, really!, it isn't that difficult and its pretty enjoyable. :)

22 kids. so its one volunteer to be buddy for one kiddo!

There are teachers on duty, so if we can't find enough, the teachers will take care of the kids too. It's just that the kids get more opportunities to interact with different types of people than just teachers that we hope to get more volunteers too.

Most of the volunteers are around 20, give or take a few years.

Thank you EVERYONE for your kind help! We have found enough volunteers!

Can't iimagine just a couple of days ago we were still worried that we might not be able to find enough.

However, if there are people who are interested to do volunteer work, do feel free to contact me as we have other projects coming up as well!
