Silat not Martial Art meh? It happens also to be the 'official ' martial art of Koppasus (Indonesia Special Forces)

The reason why I wrote this is just to highlight and give exposure to silat which is also a martial art that can be enjoyed by all races... Thank you very much for telling everyone here that it is a martial art as good as any other martial art in the world (even being used by Special Forces) It need not come from the far east to be considered effective... We have our own brand of martial art that is under appreciated all this while...

all these kung fu that is mentioned in this thread is hard to find..

the common ones that you can learn in the community club(cc) like takewando, wushu, judo etc all I think can't wear spectacles..

Just wear your glasses during normal training. Get an elastic band for them if you're afraid they'll fly off your face. Take them off during sparring and perhaps two-man practice. You will be at a disadvantage but that's to be expected.

use contact lens lar when sparring. or how about laser surgery to improve your eyesights o that you can dump your spectacles or even need to use contact lens for that matter.

learn grappling art lor. haha, i'm not sure about 1000 degrees, but i think still can at least make out a human shape in front of you right? then rush him, grab him and do your grappling moves on him.

i watched this martial arts series once, they commented that silat adapted a few moves which were also used in wing chun.

All Martial Arts like Merpati Putih has roots that can be trace back to the Far East but it also need to evolve thus you find a bit of Wing Chun, Jujitsu and others in it.If TS prefer a safer sport which does not require body contact then try TAEBO....which is not a Martial Art but a combination of Aerobics and 'Air Karate'

I tend to agree with you but this is the testimony to our Creator... you'll be surprised that these moves in actual fact make it even faster for one to execute defense maneuver and attacks compared to a direct approach because in reality the artful way a martial artist moves synchronizes all the body parts at one go... Hence the beautiful technique of silat and kung fu will always mesmerize people to the extend that they have developed into a performance art due to the fact that fighting for survival is no longer an issue in current time. But never be fooled by it. These arts can always be lethal when one chooses to use in the form they were created in the first place, that is as fight technique.

I would like to add... the fact that the general public viewed silat as a mere flashy performance with no real attacks or defense value is due to the fact that most silat master a generation ago made it as such. They preferred the art to evolve into a show piece, even developing music to accompany silat trainings and choreographed all the moves so that it can be appreciated by people during weddings. No surprise that most silat has lost its essence and when silat sparring tournament were started back in the early eighties many do not know how to compete properly. The rules and regulations made it even worst. As a result there is more emphasis on kicks over punches, killing off a lot of fight technique in the process.

That is why I am taking it upon myself to influence my peers to go back to our roots and start an alternative tournament that puts back the fight technique into silat once again because even though hopefully we may never use the technique in a life threating scenario, we can still practice the most of the fight technique in a control environment a tournament can provide. Hence the birth of the Martial Art Tanding Concept...

simple lah, can wear daily disposbale lens, when you go MMA, then wear it, no gym, the though it away. That's why I like it.

However, if you want to be a professional one, then have to go eye operation.
