If you want effective self defense, then japanese jujutsu is not
what you want. It has already been proven by Jigaro Kano that Judo
owns Jujitsu, because the training methods of Japanese Jujutsu is
not effective, nor realistic.
Jujutsu has a lot of "deadly" moves. Throat strikes, eye gouge,
groin strikes, etc. But when Kodokan Judoka challenged the top
Jujutsu schools of the time, all lost to Judo, except for Fusen Ryu
Jujutsu, which evolved into modern day Brazilian JiuJitsu.
You may think that "lethal" looking moves are good for a fight, but
the problem is there's no way you can train it safely. And unless
you can train it in sparring and apply it full force during
competition or sparring, there's no chance you can pull it off in a
real situation, because you do not have the attributes like timing
and distancing to be able to pull it off. You getting my
point?
All the martial arts that don't spar full contact will not be able
to fight when it happens for real. If they give the excuse that
"our techniques are too dangerous for sparring", you know that the
martial art is probably bull. It's already been proven again and
again and again in vale tudo and MMA.
