The S40 is available with only the 2.4- or 2.5-litre engine. If you want a smaller engine look at the S60 or V70.

Volvo's high level of commitment to safety is amazing, in the sense that this core value hasn't changed since the company was born. Most auto companies became 'lost' one way or another throughout their histories, while a few stuck true to their roots. The effort the engineers put into designing a safe car is equally impressive as well... Who the hell will ever think of using multiple grades of steel to build 1 crumple zone?

Hmm Volvo aside , another company who stuck to their roots i believe was Mercedes Benz . MB had made most of their products being easy to maintain . From the 1980s till now , their vehicles were rather easy to maintain .

The current 9-5 is way past its sell-by date imho. The latest facelift made it look even worse. I wonder when will GM roll out the new version... But anyway, Saab makes really interesting cars Very Happy one of my fav cars now is the 9-3

No way! Haha..it's so outdated..a replacement is sorely needed but it's not anywhere near..and the interior fittings is bad..plastics used is bad..at least there's more soft-touch plastics in the cabin of the S40..and the floating centre console looks so cool! I always admire it when I sit in my uncle's S40 2.4i..It's powerful too..170bhp, 0-100kmh in 8.9secs..and safe too with 6 airbags..

It's frontal impact crash test got a 5-star, but not a VERY high 5-star..the Nissan Qashqai holds the highest points of frontal impact crash test so far..but what the Volvo S40 trumps the Nissan Qashqai is side-impact..it's side-impact crash test nearly got full marks thanks to their SIPS (Side Impact Protection System)..To list all the safety gadgets in the S40, there's SIPS, WHIPS, VIVA, ABS, EBD, STC and six airbags..And I got to admire Volvo for their relentless pursuit for safety..their VIVA (Volvo Intelligent Vehicle Architecture) structure used for the S40 is amazing..5 grades of tensile steel differing in strength used to build the crumple zones..cool..
