Toddler dies after being flogged by dad

KAOHSIUNG: A toddler died in Taiwan on Tuesday after being beaten violently by her father, the second fatal child abuse case in four days following the tragedy of a baby girl who was thrown into boiling water.

The two-year-old was flogged with a broomstick twice on Tuesday in her southern Kaohsiung county home by her 40-year-old father for being noisy and disobedient, Taiwan's China Times reported yesterday.

The father later tied the girl to a bed before he left for work at a take-away shop.

Drunk dad dumps baby into boiling wok

TAIPEI: - A 10-month-old baby girl who was thrown into boiling water by her father has died after a three-day fight for survival, in a case which has put the spotlight on rising child abuse in Taiwan.

The tragedy took place last Saturday in Changhua county in central Taiwan, when the girl's mother, 45, quarrelled with her live-in partner - who is also the girl's father - at their noodle shop.
