Most of the solomon rioters are simply opportunist. I read that not only had they totally destroyed China town, they also went into the hotels with batons and Machettes and forced the occupants out of their rooms... It was a looting spree. Some had to jump from their residents to avoid the looters. WTF... they came with Machetes (PARANG) !

They seemed fail to realise that the chinese community there, are their economy pillars and investment injection. Some Chinese are already in their third generation citizens. The rioters are just shooting themselves in the foot in years to come... because poverty fuels community violence and insurgency.

They will realise that their economy and inflation woes be felt, as quick as, I would say next week.

Howard has sent in Australian troops to quel the unrest and to protect the Chinese.

Elements of the 4th RAR should be in full swing in by now.

the main problems wld be why are they rioting and robbing in the first place?

J E A L O U S....

been happening in indon and now spread to soloman..
chinese are just too goo for their own good Crying or Very sad

110 + 130 troops/police to quel a population of 500,000 ? Not that easy... but things had quiet down even before their arrival. But worst will come.. and the present troop strenght is simply too small.

But luckily, there were no death... but when their economy start slacking and polictical descent (which had not been resolved) will resurfaced.. This time with no Chinese to vent their anger. Who will their focus be on ?

Confirmed, the 1RAR has been deployed instead of the 4RAR.

"AUSTRALIA will send additional security forces to the Solomon Islands, Prime Minister John Howard has announced. The news comes after 17 Australian Federal Police (AFP) officers were injured in rioting last night. Fresh violence in the capital Honiara overnight, including the burning of shops and other buildings, forced the Government to consider a military deployment."

Soldiers from 10 Platoon, Delta Company, 1st Battalion Royal Australian Regiment await to board Australian Airforce aircraft from Townsville for the Solomon Island to assist the Australian Federal Police in support of Operation Anode

I believe there’s quite a number of Taiwanese there too. TAiwan and China were, in a way, competing to supply aid to Solomon.. for recognition.

LazerLordz SG

Where are Taiwan and PRC now? Need the Aussies to clean up the mess. Laughing
