Help: Which laptop to get?

Hello, this is the first time I'm getting a laptop. I will use it mainly for school work, watching drama and surfing the net. I'm not sure which brand is better and what to look out. Can anyone recommend me the better brand(s) and what spec to see when getting it? Also, does anyone know where is having laptop promotion?

Not more than $1800.

Can go for just an I5 processor, the 3rd gen models prices are dropping with the introduction of the 4th gen.

4gb ram enough.

hard disk space also no need to be ginormous.

Dedicated video ram for you is a plus, but not necessary.

People will tell you to go for asus, but i personally prefer HP.
