Errr!
I'm using a HP Pavillion dv3000 laptop.
On top of the slot, it's printed "SD.MS/Pro.MMC.XD" and my
camera is a Sony Cybershot T77.
I'm not sure if they can work together! But if they don't, what
peripheral device should I be getting? 
I seriously doubt that card slot supports your Memory Stick.
Get a USB card reader that supports Memory Stick. In fact, you
might as well buy a multi-card reader just in case you want to read
M2, microSD, CF cards, etc in the future.
