AVG 8 slows my PC

Since I installed AVG 8, my system is worse than dog faeces. Phui. And then I sometimes cannot even reboot or run my browsers even. Even my mouse hangs. I am running on old AMD chip, not pentium.

AVG 7.5 was very good. Why so they have to destroy a good product?

When I uninstalled AVG 8, my system returned to normal.....anyone faced the same problem? Pentium 4 users? AMD users?

What other free anti-virus do you recommend? Thanks for advice....

I've ditched AVG many years ago and have never looked back. Been with Avast since then.

If you are adventurous enough, you could also try Moon Secure Antivirus or Antivir or PC Tools Antivirus or Comodo or Bit Defender Free Edition (on demand only) or Rising Antivirus Free Edition or Google Pack (includes Norton Security Scan & Spyware Doctor Starter Edition) or Panda Cloud Antivirus or ThreatFire.

That's all I can think of for now.

yup...AVG hogs up my resources..switched to avast too

Avast FTW. My old Celeron D lagged like hell when using AVG 7.5, and it got worse when I switched to 8. Then I used Avast, and pretty much reduced the massive slowdowns.

How bad was it: Take Battlefield 2.

With AVG 8 running in the background: Lag. Lag. Lag. 5 FPS.

With Avast/AVG 7.5 : Extremely playable

So yes, I agree 8 really ruined my AVG experience.
