WinXP and Mac unable to detect Ext.Maxtor Basics 1TB HDD

Hi all..

Am having troubles with my external HDD...tried to check it from disk management and all that,but it doesn't work. Though the green/yellow led on the hdd case lights up indicating that its working and i can feel the hdd spinning.Please advise!Thanks!

Does it show up on your disk management program as an unidentified disk?

You need to add it if it shows up.

Yah.USB connection...in disk management it doesn't show at all leh.Damn shit...panic nw cuz client's photos inside...haven't burn out yet!

Can always go over to another friend's house to retrieve the pictures.

Other things to consider.

1) Upgrade BIOS (which might result in a damaged motherboard if not done correctly)

2) Windows update.

I'm damn worried that the HDD is damaged or what siah...tsktsk...must invest in a NAS with Raid 5 soon.

go to your device manager.

under action, click on add legacy hardware.

I just got a 1.5TB drive yesterday, unfortunately (for me), fortunately for you, my OS also doesn't detect my drive.

I managed to solve it. I think there are 2 possible solutions (there might be more).

Either you go over to Maxtor website and get a disk manager for your OS to recognize it.

Use Windows Vista and partition your drive into 2 smaller drives.

maybe its bcos ur hdd is not able to draw sufficient power from ur usb ports.
