Intel I7-920 or Q9550 faster?

Pls give some advise.

Depends on what you are doing that new CPU for lor...

gaming?

Around the same actually

I heard that the core i7 runs faster when encoding, but while gaming is around the same. I have built core i7 for customers and tested the normal installing, it is not really that fast.

Bear in mind that it is using ddr3 ram. So i believe maybe the difference in speed might be caused by the ddr3 ram speed

For video encoding or work all this core i7 will be better. One more thing, ddr3 ram still quite ex now

I use the new com for graphic design and some 3d rendering

Then i7 should be faster, since rendering and encoding programs are multi-threaded. Its 4-core, 8-thread i7 versus 4-core, 4-thread Q9550. Using DDR3, as Pillow said, will increase performance, but will also jack up the price, not to mention that the i7s are expensive by themselves.

depends on your budget too. Core i7 = use X58 chipset = compulsory DDR3 RAM. if you have a tight budget, go for the Q9550 then.

The i7 is faster due to arcitechture of the chips (4 cores together) as compared to q9000 series where its a (dual core x2)

Reviews from tech websites have compared the fastest q9000 chip against the lousiest i7 chip and the i7 chip wins in every aspect

@MyPillowTalks, comparison of different chips only yield very marginal fps gain as current games (except GTA4) aren't optimised for quads.

the Q9000 series are Quad-Cores.

the Q9000 series are Quad-Cores.

He knows that, I think. I think he was trying to say the the Q series are 2 dual core chips on one module or package.

The newest games are being optimised for quad-core and more, Was playing FC2 on High, DX 10 HDR and everything on Windows 7 beta (which isnt meant for gaming) and I got smooth gameplay on a 9500.

Eyelessz SG

yea i know the Q series are quad, if not intel won't denote it as Q [Quad]. I'm trying to say that the Q series chips are made from something like sticking 2 dual core chips together to form a quad core. Thus communication times between the cores of the Q series quad are slower than the intel i7 core

Actually i think the i7 will be faster cos of the hyper threading thingy.

i prefer 2 quads on a skulltrial mobo

Very ex lor, but got SLi and CrossFireX support. Some more need Fully buffered RAM.

Put 2 Xeons inside and 2 GTX295!
