I don't think there any problem with the ram, although I do
admit 1GB ram these days is not enough.
But first I have to ask, do your laptop hang when you run those
programs you have mentioned or do your laptop just hang out of
nowhere?
If you do think its those programs that are causing the problem,
have you tried removing those programs to see if your laptop still
hang?
If the problem still persist after removing those programs, have
you tried doing a system restore back to an earlier date (a date
before you installed those programs)?
Tell me the truth, is those programs pirated? 
If so, please do a virus scan to
ensure your computer is clean just to be safe and to be sure its
not any hidden malwares that is causing the problem.
Well, try the above and see if it fixes the problem.
