Windows desktop icons missing on start up

I can only see a start up bar at the bottom of my screen and wallpaper. But when i try to create a shortcut to desktop, the icon goes missing. I cant see the desktop shortcut icons nor try to click it. May i know what is the problem?

I can still serve the net using my monitor now, so it is not the monitor's problem.

Did you hide the icons? To check, right click the desktop and look for something like Unhide Icon or Show Icon.

Thanks gib, you are right. My dad accidently clicked the hide icons. :D
