Sudden hang of display

Hi, I had got this problem recently, my screen will suddenly hang, like the screen stuck there and not moving.(Not system hang where u can still ctrl alt del)

I am using a X700 ati graphic card and it had been serviced before. However, I suspect my motherboard settings were wrong or some drivers screwed up.

Sometimes when I boot the system they just cannot detect the display, just give me a blank screen and i had to force shut down and restart till it show the bios.

Anyone help me on this please? thanks.

Custom-built? It may be an issue of insufficient power supply. In this case, get a more powerful PSU for your system.

initially it doesnt use power supply but it has a slot for power supply, so i need to plug the powersupply in? cos it get its power supply from the mobo itself.

I don't understand what slot are you referring to. What I meant was the power supply from the PSU is insufficient to support the entire system including the graphics card. One way to confirm this is to replace it with a spare, weaker graphics card (or use the on-board graphics card if there is one) and check whether the same issue occurs.

If nothing works, it could be a sign of failing graphics card. If you are still using AGP card, get a PCI graphics card and see if it works.

If you are using a PCI card, slot into other PCI slots and see it works. Or get a second hand AGP card to try out.
