Dual Channel Ram

Hi guys. I am getting some dual channel rams from a friend. Is it a problem if my motherboard cannot suport dual channel? (motherboard bought in 2005 but not at home so i cant be certain) will it stil be able to run in single channel?

also, if i have a pair of rams running in dual channel, if i stick another one into the 3rd slot, will it affect the overall performance? thanks.

Everything will work in single channel if dual channel is not supported by the motherboards.

And for dual channels to work, they are always in even numbers. That means 2 or 4 sticks of RAM will work fine with dual channel, not 1 or 3 sticks.
