I got two sticks of DDR2-800 1GB RAM (Kingston, CL6, Model name:
KVR800D2N6/1G) last afternoon, which, after much testing and pain
to my thumbs each time I have to fit them in, confirmed to be not
working for my computer. I'm currently posting this with the same
computer using the old DDR2-533 RAM stick.
What I need help in is to verify whether this is a compatibility
issue, or just that I happened to have gotten myself two faulty
sticks of RAM. And I need advice before I head down to the IT show
again tomorrow noon, on whether I would have better luck getting my
system running with new RAM sticks if I downgrade to DDR2-667 or
even DDR2-533 ones.
Even when only one stick is used, the system still doesn't boot
up - it doesn't even reach the BIOS. No beep or anything from the
motherboard. (The warning beeps are switched off, I guess.) The
monitor simply remained in standby mode. The BIOS settings have
been resetted to the fail-safe ones as well, but it doesn't
help.
The motherboard in use is a GA-965P-DS3 Rev 1.0. I have read the
non-exhaustive memory support list for the motherboard on
Gigabyte's website and the closest one I can find was
KVR800D2N5/1G, which is basically the same model with a CAS Latency
of 5 (CL5). I googled an article to confirm with myself that the CL
of a RAM module does not affect compatibility, but if anyone here
thinks otherwise, please let me know.
By the way, just in case the model of the CPU is a factor, I'll
just state it here; it's E2200.
