Changing IP Address?

can anyone help me change my IP address? i remember it's something to do with going to network connections > Right click Local Area Connection > Properties > Internet Protocol TCP / IP > Properties but after that i forgot change to what.

Release IP : start -> run -> Cmd -> ipconfig/release(adapter name)-> Enter

Renew IP: start->run->cmd->ipconfig/renew(adaptername)-> Enter

but i don't know what are the consequences of renewing a new IP...i only know how to do it so..yeah, wait for some expert to help u.

uh okay..cause i aint some IT dude..just copied " how to change IP " on a piece of paper and thought i'd type it out to you but yeah, if it cant works then u'll have to wait Very Happy

Static or non static?

Static

1. Start > Control Panel > Network Connections

2. Right click on your connection and select Properties

3. Select General tab

4. Double click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

5. Select General tab

6. Use this option - Use the following IP address. Enter the IP address that you want within your router range. Say you set it from 192.168.1.10 to 192.168.1.20

Anything between 10 to 20 is OK

7. Click OK to apply the settings

If non-static

1. Open Command Prompt

2. Type in the following line by line, press Enter after each line

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
exit

To me, the simplest and fastest way is to just unplug and replug the wire connecting the router to the cable lines. Wink

Some do it for privacy... some people will do it to bypass some things...

I couldn't see any reason for anyone to change a private IP address... it's the public IP address that some are concerned about.

For static internal IPs, the average home user should leave the DNS blank. Gateway would be the IP address of your router. If you have subnetting enabled, make sure all your computers are in the _SAME_ subnet or you'll not be getting any connectivity between them.
