Pretty sure every country that has English as its main language has their own brand of "Singlish".Personally i didn't realise it until i speak to my Chinese...

if singlish is used only for conversational purposes amongst locals,there's nothing wrong.if it's used in a formal conversation,something is wrong with the person.

Not true that older people don't speak Singlish. I know of many of them who speak Singlish. They love saying "You got eat or not" "Got one time ah . .. . . .. . " "Open the light . . . . .. " "Got school tomorrow?"

i came across an article, inside there is this person who tried to defend wat china ppl think of our lousy chinese ( which includes singlish, or to be exact sing-chinese)

this person said that language, is just like a living being, where it grow up in affect its lifestyle, education, quality of life and so on... since singapore is a country consist of so many different races and religions of people, our language thus get affected by the other languages, which then gives birth to the mixed up of language (singlish, or sing-chinese)

a china man said that he agreed with wat this person said, he said that when he came over to singapore, i thought singapore chinese is very very lousy, but after 4 - 5 months, he started speaking abit of singlish or sing-chinese

well i agree with wat this person said too.. this is something we cant change.. and why should we worry so much as our country all knows singlish, it may even help to get our message across easier...

That is certainly true.

But you must understand that before Lee Kuan Yew changed the education policy to bilingual policy, there was no widespread "singlish".

Whether speaking English, Chinese, Singlish or Malay, etc. is not important. Have you seen two people speaking perfect English to each other but yet they cannot communicate? As long as humans know how to communicate with each other, it does not matter what languages you speak. And by the way, I believe I read somewhere that English is not the most common spoken language internationally.
