Files with format appearing in filenames

Currently, the file names of my document all end with their format type...

for e.g. i have a file named XX

it will appear as XX.jpg or XX.mp3 on my computer instead of just XX...

So is there a way to remove the format type in the file names all at once besides renaming because if i try renaming by deleting the format type away, the file won't be recognized.

desktop.ini and thumbs.db files are harmless. No idea what Windows uses them for.

But for any files in Windows or system32 folder... if you delete and they are not re-generated by Windows... either on next restart you can't start up Windows... or Windows will just keep screaming that some files can't load and it crashes then restart.... or nothing will happen until you start experiencing problems.

desktop.ini is for storing info on how to display a particular folder, like background images and what kind of view it should display for that folder. but it is only useful if you actually customised any folder.

thumbs.db is for storing thumbnails of the images in that folder.
