ok, i got this problem

i have this database, using SQL Server for database and asp.net for web design

what i need to to is that once i click a button, it will draw up data from the database into an Excel spreadsheet

at the same time, the Microsoft Outlook template (with the relevant messages)will open up, with the Excel Spreadsheet attached

ready to be sent to whoever i send it to

anyone knows the coding for this?

asking for my programmer, coz she cant seems to get around this problem

as far as i know, it may not be possible

would appreciate if there are other workarounds

Won't be it easier to create a webpage that accepts GET parameters and email that link to the recipient. Once click on it, Excel file can be saved (using Excel header or something similar).

This bit for generating Excel file and saving it on the server side. You have to load the database data into the dataset first.

This bit for sending email. You can bypass your Outlook. It will attach a file from the server side. That can be your Excel file that you generated and saved on the server side.

hey thanks for this

i will revert to my programmer

but i am not sure if its ok to bypass outlook

if i am not wrong, the codes u have will open up the mailbox on the database right?

we tried with that, but not to my satisfaction

mainly becos

1. i need to be able to open up the attachment and confirm the details inside
2. it will not be stored on my outlook folders
3. to add to pt 2, if its not opened on my outlook, it doesnt have the smtp and can be able to send 'From' my mailbox, unless i go hardcode it or manually fill it in

There no mailbox to open on the database. The email sending part is from ASP.Net and not using SQLMail. If you want to confirm the data first, you can create a GridView and view it first. If OK, then you can click a button to run the above codes to generate the Excel and email it.

As for the SMTP server settings, you can configure Web.Config file. Or hardcode.
