USB 9-in-1 card reader problem

Hi guys,i have a PC that has a 9-in-1 card reader installed into the PC.
However,Windows Vista does not detect it as so and there's an option to safety remove the reader(which essentially deactivate it) and after that,even if there's a card inserted there will not be a new entity in My Computer and i have to restart.

Windows Vista thinks that the card reader is "removable" when its actually installed.

Anyone have the solution to this problem?

Card readers are removable devices to Windows.

In XP, it's easier to safely remove without disabling the whole thing. In Vista, not so sure. I've not moved everything to Vista.

you see,if after i safetly remove the card reader - it will become inactive untill i restart Windows..Inactive even when i insert a card

You safely remove the card reader brother... it will deactivate the whole thing until Windows restart...

Inserting a card won't activate it, Windows ain't so smart.

My laptop also has a card reader but it does not show up in My Computer(as a single entity i.e H: ) untill when i insert a card.If i safetly remove that,it will become active again when i insert the card again.If i insert each of all the type of mem card the reader support - more entity will come up.

However,my PC's card reader shows up everything in My Computer i.e H: J: I: K: etc even when nothing is inserted

The entities are the entries for the various type of cards.

Furthermore,when i select "safety remove hardware" it only have an option to remove ALL of the entity.

Both are Windows Vista Home Premium

Your laptop one is built-in card reader, not active until something activates it.

When you just safely remove the card, it will just do what's it's supposed to do.

To do so safely without de-activating the whole thing... the concept is similar to XP.

Rather than right click on Safely Remove Hardware, left click on that icon.

You will see Safely Remove H, I, J, K, etc.

Find the correct drive and select it. Open My Computer and double check which drive is that...

Then close My Computer again. Otherwise, it may give out an error.

My case is that my integrated card reader cant be removed. so i m not too sure.

The PC's Card reader is integrated as well...

The PC one is quite easy to figure out...

If I'm not wrong, it's not integrated on the motherboard... just need to do some tracing and you will find wires leading to the 9-in-1 card reader...

That's the only time I've seen H, I, J, etc drives.

Integrated ones will lie dormant till something wakes it and may or may not show up. Mine doesn't show up.

When i left click..it shows the various drive together in one option ( Safety remove H: G: I: J Smile and not as each options..

H: is EOS DIGITAL because i inserted a CF card to the reader..the other drives are dormant and i do not want them to be active and shown(and also having the option to be safety removed) unless there's cards inserted to them as well

You mind posting a screenshot of all your devices in Device Manager? Press the Windows logo key +R

The run dialog box will appear, then you type devmgmt.msc and press OK. Device Manager will appear.

You may need to update the device driver for your 9-in-1 card reader.
