Vista laptops ain't so cheap. Did you read properly?

Usually, if it's that low, you are almost guaranteed an AMD chip + Linux.

MyParentsDunWanMe SG

It sounds reasonable for a disposable laptop.

kaeden SG

seriously, 1gb ram is super duper uber not enough for vista…

ndmmxiaomayi SG

Home Basic is enough. Laughing

kaeden SG

you tried before ?

ndmmxiaomayi SG

Yes.

Home Basic - 1GB runs fine.

Home Premium and above - 2GB and above. Anything lesser, prepare to let it lag.

Ultimate - consider getting the 64-bit of Vista Ultimate... so you can add more than 4GB that some mobos support...

BrUtUs SG

x2... even run on 2gb still barely make it...

Remove all the crap programs that comes with laptops... it will run faster, I guarantee.

Let me tell you one true story
I went out with my dad to get a laptop from funan, cause we saw a cheap deal on the newspapers.

when we went there, the service was bad, no one attended to us, they just continue doing their things.
when we enquire about the model we wanted.
Laughing One said Sold out when it was 11 plus (reasonable)
one said stock haven come.

Vista Home basic is like xp, and it runs quite smoothly.
For BUSINESS and above Mad
1gb = lag = system resources 100% = horror

Mayi, for ultimate, donned to have 64bit, 32bit is enough to support up to 4gb ram.
64bit rams can go up to 32gb ram?!

ndmmxiaomayi SG

Yes... but mobo currently don't support so much lah. Up to 8GB is what I've seen. Frankly, 2GB for Ultimate is a little on the low side... Vista Business is already quite slow with 2GB of RAM. My P2 300MB++ XP machine runs faster than Vista... Laughing

And why you and your father go Funan shop? That area is for carrot heads.

I bought a cheap acer laptop 4 months ago. When this laptop breaks down , I will never ever BUY ACER AGAIN.

When I bought the acer laptop , the screen striped across on the third day. The shop replaced it with a new one. The second one - same thing but it happened within one day. And the third one at least works , so I wonder how long it will take for it to break down.

In contrast to my IBM which lasted for 7 years with only an internal cabling problem 3 years after I bought it , ACER is crap.

fymk SG

Windows Vista eats up 75% of a 512 mb ram.

Ponders SG

Buy a MacBook.

$1600 for a damn good specs for its price range.

and it is XP/Vista-able.

but why would you do that?

Parka SG

But for $800, there's not a lot of selection.

If budget can be stretched, I'll recommend getting the Macbook also.
