graphic card, who to choose?

leungchunghong SG

As now recent games like crysis and COD4 came out, my graphic card ATI 9600pro cannot make it anymore.
Anyone can recommend a graphic that can play crysis, COD4 and flight simulator X SMOOTHLY using high resolution and setting?

Considering ATI HD2600XT 256MB DDR3 VS Nvidia 8600GT 256MB DDR3 both at S$179.

Obviously the 8800GT.

If you are nuts or having cash to spare, get a ultra or a GTX, that is if you have good cooling and overall good bus speeds to match up with the power.

You all are just blindly recommending him graphics that is not compatible with his motherboard. Laughing The 9600PRO is using AGP interface while all the graphics you all mentioned are all of the PCI-Express interface.

TS, it's time to change ur motherboard and processor before you source for new Gfx since choices in the AGP segment that will allow you to play COD, Crysis will be very limited. In fact, i can only think of the ATI X1950PRO AGP as the candidate.

If your "high resolution" refers to 1600 x 1200 (High) and "smoothly" refers to 40 fps in Crysis, you'll need at least two 8800GT cards in SLI. Don't forget to get a Duo Core or Quad Core as well.

u mean now all the 8800GT series card can combine, any specific mother board?
btw, what is SLI

LatecomerX SG

Erm it's not just now. It has been possible since a few years ago for quite a number of Nvidia cards. Basically SLI is used to link two cards together for a better performance, but most of the time it is not a directly doubled one (just like Quad Core vs Duo Core). There is a similar function with ATI cards as well, named "Crossfire". And usually SLI-compatible motherboards will have "SLI" in their model names.

Better dun try dabbling in SLI or Crossfire unless you are quite confident of troubleshooting. The driver problems are a nightmare to solve and newer games tend to be jittery towards SLI and crossfire Wink
