cornyfish2000 SG Hi all! I'm thinking of upgrading my PC's graphics capability and need some advise re: the hardware to get. Am currently running a P4 3.0Ghz with a 865PE motherboard which i recently found out to support only AGP 8X graphics card. It currently has a Nvidia Geforce FX 5700LE card with 512MB of RAM and with this setup, i can't play my new game (Hitman: Blood Money) properly at all. Went shopping around at Sim Lim today and found that an option would be to upgrade to a new graphics card. Found the fastest card would be the Geforce 7600 GT AGP that the salesman assured me will work in my current system. However this card is $215. Was wondering: Is there any difference in terms of performance between a 7600GT AGP and a 7600GT PCI-E card? Would it make more sense for me to just change the motherboard to one that can support PCI-E cards? And if i were to change the motherboard would i have to change the processor and other devices/hardware as well? Thanks in advance! Any advice is appreciated!
BadzMaro SG I got same problem as before. I think u should change motherboard all one go. Dont use AGP liaw.. cause i think the motherboard and the new card is better. PCI one . I think just change all more worth it. PCI faster. Now my graphic card KO , so they warranty or i buy a new one better one. But then XP no support DirectX 10 and then my graphic card wont give out its potential right.. ? So should buy card or just get the warranty one.
LatecomerX SG If you are thinking of spending a few hundreds on an AGP card, it would be better invested to get a PCI-E mobo + a good processor instead. And get some DDR2 RAM sticks as well. Things seem to be going cheap these few weeks.
ndmmxiaomayi SG Change motherboard doesn't necessary mean change processors, as long as the motherboard is able to support the particular processor that you are using. To spend so much on an AGP card is not really worth it, so it's better to go for a new motherboard.
LatecomerX SG But usually the range of compatible processors for a motherboard is quite narrow, and besides, it's a good time now to upgrade P4 into a Duo or even Quad, so why not get a 2-in-1? You save some $.$ by getting both at the same time as well.
ndmmxiaomayi SG Yup. I've got to say motherboard that support single core processors is getting rare.
