VERY IMPORTANT WARNING

AndrewPKYap SG

Please Be Extremely Careful especially if using internet mail such as

Yahoo, Hot mail, AOL and so on. This information arrived this morning

direct from both Microsoft and Norton.

Please send it to everybody you know who has access to the Internet.

You may receive an apparently harmless email with a Power Point

presentation 'Life is beautiful.'

If you receive it DO NOT OPEN THE FILE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES , and

delete it immediately. If you open this file, a message will appear on

your screen saying: 'It is too late now, your life is no longer

beautiful.' Subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC and the

person who sent it to you will gain access to your name, e-mail and

password.

This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon.

AOL has already confirmed the severity, and the antivirus software's are

not capable of destroying it. The virus has been created by a hacker who

calls himself 'life owner.'

PLEASE SEND A COPY OF THIS EMAIL TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS and ask them to

PASS IT ON IMMEDIATELY

TRUE or NOT? Hoax? Real? Any confirmation?

Hoax

ndmmxiaomayi SG

Received it yesterday. There is no attachments of any sort. So it's just our regular spamming.

However, do pay attention if there's any attachment. Nowadays virus creators are getting creative. Knowing that most attachments will get filtered other than common attachments like Word and PowerPoint, they have started using such documents to spread viruses.

thoreldan SG

can antivirus detect virus embedded in msoffice documents?

Pion SG

ha..who going to click one

Pion SG

i tot hotmail got scanning one?

ndmmxiaomayi SG

Some antivirus can.

If in doubt, don't open them.

ndmmxiaomayi SG

Yes, but new, undetected viruses will always go through the scanner. As long as it's not detected by antivirus programs, it will go through as clean. A better way will be to use multiple scanners.

If you suspect that it's a virus file, upload it to here:

http://virusscan.jotti.org/ or http://www.virustotal.com/

If some scanners return bad results, then don't open it.

If the results say something heuristics, open with care.

I think I also received some email like this...

It claimed that I did some survey and blah blah....I check the sender of the email, some unkown one...straightaway I press 'Report Spam'!

jlzk SG

Eh...Unlikely cause when you open email it wont auto download to your com and unlikely they will delete all your computer files...Hmm where did you get this information from?

AndrewPKYap SG

anyway since I received that email, there was no report of anything happening and so i am inclined to think that it was a hoax.

an interesting note.

Last night BBC was talking about virus creators and hackers and how they have changed from school-boys bravado to sophisticated tools of the criminal underground.

If you are attacked by a virus, the chances are, you will not know!

naz92 SG

IF it was true, why muz it be chained, and there is no news about this?

patdog112 SG

i dun open attatchment from ppl i dun know

ndmmxiaomayi SG

At the rate new viruses are created, the chances of you knowing is getting lower, unless it's done by some script kiddie.
