1. I have connection problems.. i keep dcing.. esp with the router.
2. I have tried all possible methods to solve it.. and i mean all.
3. I suspect could be the internal cabling.. if i switch to singnet or pacnet to bypass using the cables, would that help?

1. If you are using wireless, please make sure that nothing is interfering. Walls, doors, handphones, microwave ovens can drop a signal.

2. Please list out what you have tried.

3. Unstable connections may not be the cables at all. If after all troubleshooting you still have problems, you are welcome to call up Starhub to help you diagnose. And remember, you can't switch ISP as and when you like if your contract still has not expired or is not near expiry date.

Lastly, please keep to the original thread. You've already started one.

Using StarHub Maxonline Basic.

Problems:

1. Sometimes when i go cmd and take ping ****, it shows packet losses
2. Sometimes websites take VERY long to load and when i ping it, there are losses
3. Sometimes when playing Guild Wars, connection can suddenly be so slow that it feels so laggy and i'll dc after a while

Tried:

1. Switching to wireless adapter
2. Using both my connection and neighbour's connection
3. Using direct connection to modem
4. Changed my faulty harddisk and it still gave the same problem
5. Formatting
6. Bought new linksys router. WRT54G

Anyone able to help? Im totally out of ideas.

Okay guys.. here are my stuff agn.. thanks for the replies.

1. I have tried restarting the router and modem before.. unfortuately it still doesn't work
2. Whenever i get this screwed up problem, i hardly can load a page.. i cant even access starhub utilities and when i do, my connection is back to normal so the readings are normal again!
3. Have called starhub abt 7 times in a span of a year and they did tests, monitoring etc.. they said they read the package losses but their connection was still perfectly fine..
4. I live in Bishan but i dont think its the area or else.. confirm newspaper.
5. Bought a new modem as starhub told me my teryalon or dunu wht modem was faulty.. out of warranty but still receive same problem.

To confirm this problem, my download acclerator plus, while downloading, will suddenly drop from 400+kb/s to 2.3 kb/s..

Try this method, Connect cable modem at living rm pt without splitter and conn pc directly to it. do a ping to www.yahoo.com and www.hotmail.com, if still getting losses, call starhub lor. might be modem or cable point issue.

1. connect cable at room point meaning directly to the modem without any router whatsoever? tried that b4.. still got prob
2.ping yahoo.com b4.. sometimes 2,3,4 losses.

Guys im very frustrated at starhub.. i cant play morpg games now cause it lags, i cant download stuff, i cant surf when the lag comes.. it comes abt once a day now.

Suggested Solutions:

1. Connect at living room pt
2. diff internet explorer (TRIED)
3. disable router firewall (HOW?)4. ping own IP (No losses)
5.when u encounter slow access, do a traceroute to the website instead of ping, to see where the losses occur.(HOW?)

* Before i disconnect my entire pc and move it downstairs, is that the only solution left?

You said you tried using your neighbour's wireless. Do you have the same problems?

If yes, it's more likely a technical issue with Starhub, rather than your router or modem's issue. If you have some neighbours using Starhub, can you try confirming with them about the connection issues.

Also, it may be a faulty Starhub's proxy if everything is alright. Singnet has one and I faced connection problems with that, called up Singnet to get another one. Everything solved.

Starhub may be facing the same issue as well.

a starhub technician came down and he tested everything including the booster.. all working fine.

could it be that the WRT54G router is just slow? and that sometimes its so slow that it dc?

btw i have 3 coms connected to it.

oh and so i call starhub to change the proxy? i just say change proxy?

Linksys. God damn it. They are very unstable. Change it to some other routers. It has nothing to do with Starhub.

I think not first. Can you just change your router to some other brand first other than Linksys. Reason is given in the above reply to you.

okay i just did a direct connection, and i got dced..

so its not the router fault.. die la darn sian.
