How do ppl actually check for plagiarism?

AMEN567889 SG

how?
i heard that theres a software avaliable...
but surely there muz be some limitations with regard to this software...
any 1 has knowledge with regards to tis?

browniebaobao SG

there's a software...

can actually calculate how many % also..

Ngee Ann Poly has been using that for a few years liao.

stellazio SG

turn it in.

ya they check for the same mistakes you make i think.

when i went to this web i was shocked.

poly copyings are all backfired Crying or Very sad

gigabyte14 SG

luckily it's only for 1 module nia

or else i dead Laughing

it's scary, they'll show the source of the web that you went to, how many percent of the data you take from it, sentence by sentence.

luckily for my previous assignment i got 14% only, cos 20% means 20% off my total score

ditzy SG

You know sometimes your lecturer lists you a few books you could use? I'll stay away from those books if I were you. Laughing

ndmmxiaomayi SG

How accurate I don't know. But I know for RP, our lecturers have superb memory. So don't try anything funny by copying and pasting. No need softwares. Laughing

AMEN567889 SG

i mean not copy and paste la..i m not stupid lol...
i mean if i go make the effort to paraphrase...will i still get busted or not?
btw..i m doing my pw and i m worried that i may get charged for plagiarism becuz i have used other ppl's ideas in my work ( but not copy and paste exactly.)...=/

ndmmxiaomayi SG

Cite where you take those info and paraphrasing will not hurt.

Paraphrasing will 'bypass' the checking part.

AMEN567889 SG

is it fine if i juz simply substitute the words using tehsaurus??
will not get into trouble hor?

AMEN567889 SG

for example,

Piaget also had a considerable impact in the field of computer science.

and i write it out to be,

Piiget had a significant influcene in the endeavour of computer science.

can bo? will i tio kan? no right? provided i got cite the sources la of cuz Laughing

and also right

if i were to use diagrams like tables..etc..etc..( copy and paste from internet) in my project work to further reinstate on my points...will i get chargred for plagiarism even if i were to cite the sources? no right?

ndmmxiaomayi SG

I suggest you read those info, understand it and paraphrase. Since it's project work, you will need to present it. Thesaurus will not help you for that.

ndmmxiaomayi SG

You paraphrase don't need to produce so many errors right?

Piaget != Piiget

Influence is spelt this way, not influcene

Copy and paste diagrams = no no. Draw your own to fit your own situation, unless it's just a basic diagram.

Like a basic network diagram, grab those off the Net and credit them.

AMEN567889 SG

so my parahrase is ok right?
but i read some article from the net that merely replacing the words and rearragin it sequence is nt enuff..dun know how true is that?
i tot u juz substitute the words with ur own is already good enuff to bypass the check already?

and also heres a example of diagram which i haave used..

http://chiron.valdosta.edu/whuitt/col/cogsys/piaget.html

fairlady_xoxo SG

Yup some software...checks the %...usually more than 30% will be F grade for SP...

ndmmxiaomayi SG

I don't think so. If you understand it, you can phrase it better, rather than trying to replace some words or phrases with similar meanings.

Replacing of words is not paraphrasing, although the process is there.
