Graphic Card Issue

Hi all experts.

Just installed a new Nvidia AGP GeForce 7600 GT graphic card not too long ago. The card is powered from within the tower. Driver installation was quite straightforward. For some strange reason, some times immediately after a successful bootup, the screen goes blank and if remain undisturbed for about 3 to 5 mins, the computer will reboot. The problem is intermittent so on a good day, the bootup has no other problems.

edit: before somebody asks::: Pentium 4, 1600 mhz, 640 Mb RAM, running on XP service pack 2.

Getting irritated to the core.... any expert opinions will be helpful.

Sometimes the drivers provided on CD are not the latest, and usually contains some sort of bugs. Try getting the latest ones here:

Can you also list out your PC specifications?

nt enough power from ur power supply?

so how many watts ur power supply gives out?

thanks. just updated the driver. however the problem still seem to exist. the strange thing is that it seems only to happen when I click Internet Explorer. I am currently using mozilla and everything seems fine

not sure what the power supply is.... will check. however when it's up and running, OBLIVION plays fine.....

Which version of Internet Explorer? The latest one or Internet Explorer version 6?

I hope its not The elder scroll's OBLIVION maybe i am way out of time i think i can strike 4-D if OBLIVION plays fine on a PC running under 2ghz processor. ANd oh before you install this game remember to defrag the hdd first...funny coz this game even lags with a system running 1gig ram Laughing

Seems like an issue with nVidia. There has been quite a few complains on it. The latest drivers don’t fix it, but flashing the graphics card fixed it.

Don't really advice TS to flash his card, since it would void the warranty

I think its healthy to completely remove old drivers (even its the same camp) before installing the drivers from a new card.

TS specs also a little rare..640mb of ram? WIll help if we know the somplete specification or model of computer.

I will also have patience when installing mobo or card drivers...sometime even if you have a fast system the card drivers installation's still very slow and it takes a long time for the instruction screen and steps to appear.

He might have on-board graphics, which resulted in this rare amount of RAM.

the 640 MB ram was because I added 512 to the 128 already on board. A relatively old PC but accessories were added..... no real need to buy a new PC yet.

having said all that, as long as I don't start IE 7, I am fine..... not too picky lah.

don't know what "flashing" a card means...

Since you don't know how to flash the BIOS... then you will have to bear with it.

As a side note, rolling back to IE6 might help as IE7 uses a slightly upgraded rendering engine, which may or may not be the cause to your problem.

if i’m not wrong ur graphic card could be faulty.. try sending back to the shop where u get it from and ask for a check..

Don't know if the 4-pin power cable connected at the AGP version of the 7600 or not if not sure not enough power unlike PCI-e version Confused
