Formation of Team - CBC League

chuanish SG

1. To "buff" on Tueday nights at 11pm would be the term to use when tuning in to Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

2. "Buff" is also a quicker way to address Buffy, during circumstances which do not permit the full use of her name, like in the middle of a fight with undead, or plain laziness to mouth 2 syllables, etc.

3. "To get buffed" is a phrase vampires, ghouls and zombies are familiar with, it generally refers to the act of getting thrashed. (See "To get some whoop-ass")

Combinations can also be formed between the root word and it's derivatives, or between derivatives, to form interesting phrases like "Buffing Buffy" or "Buffy in the buff".

As for the term, "buff to 35", I'm guessing that it's either a signal set dialogue between Buffy and a contact with callsign 35, or it simply means beating someone into 35 pieces.

But that's just me.

prataman SG

Urm? Chuan? Come over here so I may slap you.

Ok from what I understand, They oil it as per normal, but spread the edge of the oil another 3 feet forward, or something like that. That is, the 32-35 feet zone is lighter conditioned than the first 32 feet.

3 feet may seem a short distance, but it does make an obvious difference (well it sure did to me the first couple of times) out there. Perhaps it affects me more because I've been bowling there so long and this sudden change gives me a reaction I'm not used to Smile

prataman SG

Alright, just for your info, here are the 11 bowlers currently in the squad. (in no particular order) Couple of the people, not sure their age, hence the (?). Roughly.

1) David Goh - (me!) 24, RH Hook
2) Louis Lim - 21, RH Hook
3) Tan Liang Cheng - 17(?), LH Hook
4) Ng Ting Hwa - 26, RH Rocket
5) Lim Ming Ting - 21(?), RH Hook
6) Marianne Teo - 14, RH Hook
7) Alvin Lee - 28, RH Hook
Cool Jae Tay - 24, RH Hook
9) Ian Wong - 23, RH Hook
10) Yeo Wee Siong - 25, RH Spin
11) John Lee - 27, LH Hook

???

Prataman, you're saying that the extra 3 feet have less oil YET produces less backend?

I once knew this... but've forgotten. I thought buff means they don't strip it, they just 'flatten' what's left of the oil there.
Whether this means that the 3 feet from 32-35 are drier or wetter than the preceeding 32 totally depends on the original lane condition before the conditioning process. If the lanes were very dry before oiling, then there wouldn't be much to buff, hence it would be less oiled than the front 32. But if the lanes were wet, say because they weren't used much, then buffing would mean more oil after 32, and on synthetics, that would leave a flat condition AFTER the front 32 that would provide a lot of the ammunition for carrydown.
This normally gives a terrible time for me. because the reaction of the ball after the pre-laid front would be masked by the effect the wet buffed area has...

prataman SG

Ho Harmy,

I better confirm with the chairman what he did to the lanes. Essentially, he told me that the original pattern was oiled to 32, but now it was "buffed to 35". At first I thought since the end part of the oil was flattened out......it simply meant the ball would take a longer time to read.

However, the reaction we are getting now seems to suggest that it's actually OILED TO 35 rather than buffed! Cos we do get a lot more skid... later breakpoint.

It sure looks like what I said a few posts ago was kinda contradictory, isn't it? Sad

Hey Prataman,

Seems that there's another opening in the team. Can I ask my ex-teammate or do you have another bowler in mind? It is best that we fill up the whole team.

Cheers

prataman SG

Hey Ding!

Not avoiding question lah. But your friend needs to take queue number loh. Waiting for a couple bowlers' replies you see. I've got 11 only, last slot still free.

Btw, seems like the league tentatively will begin as early as 7th May. It will only be confirmed by next week, because right now there are only 7 teams enrolled (out of 8 needed). But if a team signs up (2 are considering) by the end of this week, then the league will begin 7th May proper. Just 3 Tuesdays from now. Pretty cool eh?

Sorry ah. Didn't mean to "avoid" answering you! Smile

Ding SG

O I C ...

BTW can let JeremyBek have it if he is really interested. We can make gd with his participation.

Can wait to warm up for CBC using these few league games Very Happy

Deamon SG

Hey prataman, u going bowling tmr is it?

prataman SG

Fellas,

Great to play with you dudes today! At least I know we will have a sort of a chance to win at least 5th-4th places!! Only if:

1) Ian can shoot like he did his last ball
2) Ding can zero his arty properly
3) WXman has autotargeting
4) Jae can concentrate on last 3 frames
5) I can get my stupid thumb out properly

Err.... maybe we won't have a chance after all..... Smile

Great to bowl with JH, Jordan and Lydia as well.

Ok, now for the bad news. Due to a lack of an 8th team, the league has been tentatively pushed back another week.

The league will NOT, I repeat NOT be starting on the 7th May as originally stated. My sincere apologies. It will instead tentatively begin on the 14th of May. Will keep you updated on that.

harmzuay SG

prataman,
if you need jae to concentrate, rest assured that he definitely can. I can vouch for that. Smile He's improved that area of his game, and in the past few months, I believe he has realised that he can. It's only a question of when, not how. He's played on the line before, and emerged better.
He will rise to the occasion.

Always remember: It's easier to spare from a channelball than a split. Very Happy

prataman SG

No worries about that, Harmy. I assure you that wasn't a knock on Jae or anybody. Smile
I myself am certain he can handle the pressure, and we can fix the chinks in our game. Hopefully.

In fact, Jae did better than most of us yesterday!!!!!!
