Disk read error

Have this message abt disk read error when started pc…...replace with other harddisks also the same….cannot reinstall windows as system will halted to prevent further damage to pc….what can be the problem?

maybe your cable is dusty or damage?
but again, cable seldom fails.

Boot to the XP CD and select Repair XP.

If it's able to boot up, type in fixmbr.

It will have no GUI, it's totally command line. Follow the prompts.

tried various harddisks and wanted to reinstall windows....all ended up with the same message system stopped to prevent further damage....

I got the same problem before too..Now i used the hd as slave drive since the only problem is that you cant boot from it

Boot up to the Windows CD, select Repair Windows XP...

You will be brought to a command line, type in fixmbr.

can't even go to the repair screen....

How old is the hard disk?

It could it has gone to heaven.

Will hang at the black screen part right? It's quite a common problem..Till now no one knows the exact cause..But your next hd format in fat32 if you want to be safe Laughing
