For those who have published scientific papers in journals before, can you let me know are there any restrictions to the no. of authors in a published scientific paper?

So if the more authors there are, the glory will be shared among izzit?

Or the less the better?

Is there a very big difference between the 1st, 2nd 3rd authors?

I wouldn't go over three unless it was some mondo monster project. It could be handy if one of your authors is already known by the journal editors. The order of the authors should reflect who's driven the research the most.

so is there a declaration at first to see who will be the authors ranking at the start of the project? Otherwise it will be mayhem if ppl start fighting over the credits once the paper gets sent to the journals. Who decides to put the names in? I do know the last author will usually the boss of the laboratory who juz put his name there, prob juz as a "guest appearance"

Settle it internally before submitting. Typically the ones who contributed most to the conceptual content (rather than those who did the legwork) need to come first. The "coffee time" authors really should be mature enough to live with not having their names listed.
