casshern SG just bought a new 2.5" portable HDD. its running on a 80gig hitachi HDD. when i plug into the usb the HDD doesnt shows up on my computer. =( wondering where can it be. no idea how to solve this problem liao, been trying to DIY on device manager but cant
casshern SG btw, nothing shows up on the bottom left corner of the task bar, where usually u plug in a usb device there will be a pop up n sound telling u a new USB device have been found. my usb ports are working fine as tested with several other devices
casshern SG oh yeah bottom right... my bad. how do i go about if there's not enough power? the LED on the case is on
thoreldan SG yeah..put on your hand..can feel the spinning one if very quiet means no activity LED on doesnt mean anything
ndmmxiaomayi SG If you can hear, it's quite bad... place your hand on the top of the hard disk and feel it. Please don't press down, just place your hand on top can already.
thoreldan SG some come with a y-cable type of usb connector one hdd to 2 usb ports on your pc you wanna check your package?
casshern SG oh yeah its alot better this time round. i got the y-type of cable n i plug both in. but i still cant get the drive to spin. but i seem to hear clicking sound
casshern SG i suspect so.... a clicking HDD usually dun mean something good. lucky i'm on off tmr. shall go back
casshern SG i suddenly remb that on my way back home i jammed brake n the whole package flew from the passenger seat
casshern SG BTW, is it usual for a HDD's shrink wrap to be opened. cos when he got me the HDD it was opened n simply stick back with scotch tape. when i ask why is it not in shrink wrap condition he told me sometimes the company will open for QC and stuff
hiphop2009 SG usually, external HDD will provide u with two USB plugs. one is for data (and power) and one is soley for power. so ya, plug in both if needed.
