Are p2p downloading programme safe ?

Unidentified SG

Erm , want to ask... although tried using p2p programme such as ares , or long time ago kazaa. Downloading stuff like mp3 and movie safe anot, easy kena virus ?

Coz i only dare to use it on my PC , now was wondering is it safe to install it on laptop

allentyb SG

P2P is not safe at all, as long you are downloading from a open tracker, it will not be safe at all, and also depends on what you are downloading, and if you are downloading those ahem file, probably, you are also vulnerable to virus or spyware. and depends on which tracker, you are downloading the torrent from.

Unidentified SG

but ares is quite clean right ?

allentyb SG

if i tell you, ares is quite clean, and the next moment, you kenna virus, will you come back and flame me?

i am not in the position to tell you, which P2P is decent enough

Clean and infected list of P2P programs

Some P2P programs may not be infected by spywares, but it doesn't mean the files you download aren't. P2P is an open protocol, as long as you are sharing files with an unknown person, you are just risking your PC.

Xcert SG

there are no safe P2P software around...even if its malware-free...the P2P network that it uses will not be.

Unidentified SG

so am i right to say that if i install mcafee , it would be a little safer then before or install is xtra , no use at all ?

R3SsH|n SG

i am not afraid of viruses...i am only afraid of my ISP... Embarassed

Xcert SG

better than nothing...but it doesnt prevent all malware...so U better be prepared to reformat.

chenc SG

torrents is cleaner than ares in my opinion.

although many torrents are obviously just virus, especially files with sexual related names. but there are plenty of good ones out there.

The best part of torrent is ppl leave comments on the web. before deciding to download a certain torrent, u can read through all the comments, gaining an idea of its possible problems. this is how i download loads of things but pc remain clean for 3 years liao.

MyPillowTalks SG

pillow think that the safest thing is to scan every downloaded file before opening.............

Sagara SG

Know what you are actually downloading and not just download everything in sight will keep you relatively virus-free.

BT for me is good enough..
